Schedule not an excuse for streak ending

University of Iowa head wrestling coach Tom Brands killed the concept three days before the top-ranked Hawkeyes' duals between Indiana and Oklahoma State. He wasn't willing to give any credence to the idea that an away dual the night before a match-up with No. 2 Oklahoma State at Carver-Hawkeye Arena would be hard on the Hawkeyes.
The win at Bloomington, Ind., allowed Iowa to tie the record of 84 straight duals without a loss set by Oklahoma State from 1959-66. The Cowboys snapped that in a tough battle that featured many highly-contested matches and a 17-16 Oklahoma State win on third criteria, which is most match points (54-51).
Actually, Brands said the meet was originally scheduled for a Sunday but was moved to Saturday with Oklahoma State's approval.
Brands was asked again after the dual and he restated that it was no big deal and that it wasn't rare to face two highly rated teams on consecutive nights in the past. He told an interesting story about such an event when he wrestled for Dan Gable that included a snow storm and having to split the team up to make sure half of them made it back to Iowa City for the second dual.
