Bees hand Kernels 5-3 defeat

BURLINGTON - The host Bees used a three-run sixth inning to had the Cedar Rapids Kernels a 5-3 loss Thursday night before 675 fans at Community Field.
The loss dropped the Kernels (20-32, second half) into last place in the Western Division.
Justin Bass, Brian Hernandez and Jean Almanzar each had two hits for Cedar Rapids.
Jairo Diaz (0-1) took the loss in his debut with the Kernels. He allowed four runs in five innings, walking five and striking out four.
Nate Long (7-6) pitched seven solid innings to get the victory for Burlington.
The teams play again today at 6:30 p.m.
