Authorities say a former Waterloo teacher accused of having sex with a student is expected to change his plea to guilty.
Black Hawk County prosecutor Linda Fangman said that a plea change hearing is scheduled June 4 for 26-year-old Brett Messenger, of Waterloo. He'd pleaded not guilty in January, after his arrest on a charge of sexual exploitation by a school employee.
Messenger was a teacher at West High School and co-director of the school's band. Police say he had sex with a female student in the spring and summer of 2011. The student has since graduated, and police received information that she had told another instructor about the relationship.
