DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Auditors are combing through records of the Iowa Association of School Boards following allegations of past fraud and undisclosed financial dealings.
Some of the allegations are that public money was used for a former executive's vacation and staffers misled board members about a financial deal, among other things.
Mary Delagardelle is the association's deputy executive director. She says auditors have told her that there were about a dozen concerns and the news came as a surprise.
Other board officials agree and say more details should emerge when the group's governing board meets in the coming days.
The association collects annual dues from each of Iowa's 361 public school districts. Those dues range from $736 to $10,366.
