Campbell, Mary Ellen

Mary Ellen Campbell, 73, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City. A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Family graveside services will be held at a later date at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty.

Mary Ellen Sentman was born March 11, 1938, in Iowa City, the daughter of Leonard and Erma (Madsen) Sentman. She attended schools in Iowa City, graduating from City High School in 1956. Mary Ellen then enrolled and attended the University of Iowa, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 1960.

For many years she was employed at the University of Iowa Student Health Service, retiring in 2002. She was married to James Campbell on May 28, 1961, in Iowa City.

Her family includes her son, Brett Campbell (Brook); granddaughter, Abbey Campbell; daughter-in-law, Brandi Campbell; her sister, Joan Anciaux (Dave); sister-in-law, Judy Thorn (Larry); and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Erma and Leonard Sentman; husband, Jim; son, Dan; sister, Kay Sentman; her parents-in-law, Alice and John Campbell; and a niece.

A memorial fund has been established in her memory.
