Some less common birds have been seen in our area lately:
White-crowned Sparrows usually depart our area far before this date, but one was seen in Oxford on 6/21
Normally Blue Grosbeaks are not seen in Northern Johnson Co. A number have been seen in the Greencastle area of the Hawkeye Wildlife Area.
Cedar Lake has has some less common summer visitors, Black-crowned Night-Herons, Caspian Terns, and Double-crested Cormorants.
And a real mega rarity for the entire state was a Broad-billed Hummingbird seen in Charles City. Broad-billed Hummingbird rarely visits the US N of intersection of AZ, NM, and Mexico.
