Repairs to flood damage that have resulted in the closing of Highway 136 about 7 miles south of Cascade could be under way soon.
The Iowa Department of Transportation has placed emergency repairs to the highway section on its regular bid-letting secheduled for Tuesday, August 17.
The highway was closed after flooding the weekend of July 23-25 on the Maquoketa River weakened the road bed near a river bridge, causing about 200 feet of the pavement to fail.
The DOT also plans to award an emergency project to replace a bridge on Highway 5 just 1.3 miles north of the Missouri state line in Appanoose County that failed during recent heavy rains. It will be replaced with a box culvert.
