McDonald named principal of Sageville Elementary in Dubuque

has been appointed as principal of Sageville Elementary school in Dubuque beginning today, the Dubuque district announced in a news release.

McDonald has been principal of Fulton Elementary and has worked in the district since 2003, Superintendent Laurie Godinez said in a press release.

"Jean's background as a teacher and extensive experience as a principal make her a clear choice to work with Sageville parents, teachers and staff. Her compassion and honesty will serve the families of Sageville well as they prepare for a new school year this summer and fall," Godinez said in the statement.

McDonald was principal at St. Columbkille's in Dubuque from 1999-2003, principal at Holy Trinity/Sacred Heart in Dubuque from 1989 to 1999, and a teacher and principal at Holy Ghost in Dickeyville, Wis., from 1984 to 1989.

McDonald replaces Robert Burke, 43, who was terminated and

faces federal charges of downloading child pornography. Investigators also found evidence that he videotaped students in the boy's restroom at the school. He is tentatively scheduled for trial Aug. 8.
