Iowa CCI takes stand against factory farms
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 1, 2012 1:45 pm
Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (Iowa CCI) members across the state are documenting the largest attempted expansion of the factory farm industry in Iowa in at least the last five years and we're organizing local communities to stand up, speak out for clean air and water, and fight back against corporate ag.
Corporate ag giants like Cargill, Iowa Select and Prestage Farms are trying to pack thousands of hogs - and millions of gallons of manure - into new confinements in Adair, Black Hawk, Dallas, Floyd, Greene, Poweshiek, Union and Wright counties and more.
But local communities willing to go toe-to-toe with corporate power are beating back the factory farm attack. CCI members already have stopped five factory farms from being built since Jan. 1. If you're having problems with a factory farm being built near you, call Iowa CCI at (515) 282-0484.
