IOWA CITY - The case of John J. Lane, 43, of NE Cedar Rapids, has been continued in Johnson County.
Lane, who is accused of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in Iowa City on April 16, was originally scheduled to go to trial on August 15. Another pre-trial conference and trial will be rescheduled for a later date, Judge Marsha Bergman said.
Reports indicate that on April 16, an investigator spoke with a nine-year-old female and her mother at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. The mother told the investigators that Lane, a family member, had sexually assaulted her daughter on April 15. A secondary interview was also conducted with the child at the Child Protection Center, police said.
First offense second-degree sexual abuse is a Class B Felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
