Three teenagers have been arrested on felony charges following a string of drive-by shootings in rural Black Hawk County, authorities said.
Jonathan D. Martin, 16, Cayd A. Sapp, 16, and Nickolas A. Presley, 17, all of Evansdale, were arrested Wednesday by deputies from the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office on charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
They are accused of shooting at a total of nine homes on Young Road, Poyner Road and Gilbertville Road in the east-central part of the county on Jan. 8. No one was injured, but some residents were struck by debris.
All three boys face nine counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon for the Jan. 8 incident. Martin also faces another charge for allegedly shooting at a house in the 6000 block of Osage Road on Dec. 26. The residents were home, but no injuries were reported.
Sheriff Tony Thompson said the three were picked up in Evansdale on Wednesday between noon and 8:30 p.m. and brought to the Sheriff's Office for interviews. They were later arrested. Thompson said deputies identified the type of gun used in the shootings, but he declined to release that information due to the ongoing investigation.
Intimidation with a weapon is a Class C felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
