Do you think public transportation in the Corridor could be improved? If so, how would you suggest improving it?
FROM OUR INBOX
1. Bus lanes
2. Shuttle service between C.R. and I.C.

I think rail service or bus service between Iowa City & Cedar Rapids would be a plus. A Waterloo to Mount Pleasant system would open business to more workers and shoppers.

We sure do need more of it. I'm 87 and there's hardly any transportation unless you're going to a doctor. I don't know what we're going to do. Winter is coming and we have to get to the store and we have to get to our doctor's appointments.

Lori M.: City buses should run until at least 10 p.m. - midnight Monday through Friday, and start earlier and run later than they currently do on Saturdays, and possibly on Sundays as well. They also need to run routes more frequently. Once every hour (or 90 minutes) during nonpeak times isn't enough for many people who rely on public transportation.
Caseno Y.: It should run at least till midnight.
Dawn M.: In Cedar Rapids, the buses need to run more often for much longer hours and intersect with routes rather than make passengers go all the way to downtown to make a transfer. It shouldn't take anyone over an hour to get from one side of Cedar Rapids to the other. Plus they need to expand the routes so more people in residential areas can get to the bus stop without having to walk more than 10 minutes to get to their homes. As for connecting the cities, a light rail would be wonderful.
Lindsey N.: Cedar Rapids is incredibly difficult to get around on in public transport. It's exhausting using the system because by the time you're done you've spent three hours just on getting to/from places if you only need to get one place.
Tracy T.: I feel city buses should run from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. so many can get to work or school and then back home
Andrea B. When I lived in Wisconsin, the gave you a transfer ticket that allowed you to get on your second bus without paying again when you have already paid your fare. Buses are also ridiculously overcrowded. If there were more routes, more people could ride comfortably. Also hire drivers that are not aggressive. To often I see older or handicapped people jolted forward because the drivers gun it on the gas. Having them run till at least 8 p.m. would create more jobs and allow more opportunities for members of our community accept jobs that run later. I call it community enrichment. Not everyone chooses to drive. And just because you use city buses, does not mean you are irresponsible or poor. Some of us choose to ride for other reasons, or like me, I'm too scared to drive.
May A.: Our transportation system needs some serious updating. I'm echoing what everyone else has already said. They need to run longer, they more routes, transfer points.
Eric D.: Passenger rail, European style, between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
Geo H.: I think they should bring back the CRANDIC and then add Waterloo. We have enough commuters to justify the service, and could remove congestion. Utah has a service from Ogden to Provo with the main stop in Salt Lake. They've eliminated most of the congestion and pollution that way.
Rose A.: Maybe Cedar Rapids could join the 21 century by having public busing past 6:00 p.m. Really, Cedar Rapids!
John T.: Check out SMART in northern California. It can be done.
