A transient couple were both arrested for domestic assault early Thursday morning after police were called to 618 N. Dodge Street, Iowa City at 1:27 a.m.
Police found the couple already had three prior domestic assault convictions between the two of them.
According to criminal complaints, Daryl C. Bocharshi, 34, was convicted of domestic assault in Sept. 2005 and March 2009; Donita L. Richey, 50, has one prior domestic assault conviction from June 2007. The couple has been engaged for a couple of years.
Police were called to Dodge Street by witnesses for a report of an intoxicated couple fighting. Witnesses at the scene said the man and woman, identified as Richey and Bocharshi, were fighting and using profane language at each other.
Witnesses said Bocharshi allegedly grabbed Richey by the arm and was cursing at her. Bocharshi reportedly told the police Richey elbowed him in the face.
Bocharshi was arrested with third-offense domestic assault, a class D felony, and Richey was taken into custody in connection to second-offense domestic assault, a serious misdemeanor.
Both were also charged with public intoxication.
Bocharshi is still in custody at Johnson County Jail on a $12,500 cash only bond. Richey is also at Johnson County on a $10,000 cash only bond.
