Cedar Rapids Washington tops Iowa AP Index for fifth year

For the fifth year in a row, Washington High School in Cedar Rapids has taken first place on the Iowa AP Index.
The list, released annually by the University of Iowa's Belin-Blank Center, ranks Iowa high schools based on a measurement dividing the number of Advanced Placement exam students in all grades took by the amount of graduating seniors. The state index is 0.49., which means that one AP test was taken for every 2.04 class of 2012 graduates from Iowa public high schools. Washington's score, 3.21, increased from 3.08 in 2012. Washington was the only high school in the state with an index above 3.
Kennedy High School, also in Cedar Rapids, came in second this year with a score of 2.58. Completing the top five are Iowa City's Regina Junior-Senior High School, Ames High School and Iowa City West High School, in third, fourth and fifth places respectively. All of 2013's top five schools have been among the index's five highest scorers since 2011.
Mid-Prairie High School in Wellman took sixth on the 2013 list. Cedar Rapids' Xavier High School had the 12th highest score this year, the second-highest placement on the list for a private school, following Regina. Other local schools appearing in the top 50 include Linn-Mar High School in Marion, which took 16th, Iowa City High School in 20th place, Cedar Rapids' Jefferson High School, which ranked 25th. Prairie High School, also in Cedar Rapids, took 31st this year.
Anamosa High School came in 37th, Williamsburg Junior-Senior High School ranked 40th, Lone Tree Junior-Senior High School took 43rd place and Alburnett Junior-Senior High School was 47th. Clear Creek Amana High School in Tiffin took 49th place, the last of the entries from Grant Wood Area Education Agency district buildings.
