Cedar Rapids man charged with sexual abuse against two children

Thomas M. Barnard, 30, of 909 28th St. SE, is charged with sexual abuse against two children, according to court documents.

Barnard is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse for the incidents, which occurred at a Marion address between Sept. 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008. The incidents involved children ages 6 and 8, the complaint said.

Barnard is also charged with dissemination of pornography to a minor, for showing the children a pornographic movie during the same period, also at the Marion address.

Second-degree sexual abuse is a Class B felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison. The pornography charge is a serious misdemeanor, which can draw up to a year in jail.

Barnard, who's not listed on the state's sex offender registry, remains in the Linn County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.
