One killed in head-on car-semi crash near Muscatine

Authorities are investigating what caused a car to cross the center line and hit a semi-trailer truck head-on north of Muscatine on Thursday.
Carey L. Gillette, 38, of Reynolds, Ill., was killed in the crash, which happened around 2:40 p.m. on Highway 38 at 155th Street. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Gillette's car was northbound when it went into the other lane and collided with a southbound semi driven by Gary L. Anderson, 67, of Aledo, Ill.
Both vehicles went into the east ditch and the semi tipped onto its side. Anderson was not hurt in the accident, authorities said.
Gillette was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Patrol's report said.
