Majority wants no part of religious agenda
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 6, 2011 7:53 am
If one looks at the recent election results in a different way, only 25 percent of registered Iowa voters wanted to get rid of three Iowa Supreme Court justices. Three-fourths of registered voters, either by their silence, not marking their ballots or actual votes, decided that they liked things the way they were and that the justices were doing exactly what they were appointed to do.
Why the media continue to allow Bob Vander Plaats to push his theocratic agenda in public forums is puzzling. He holds no elective office, and being a “conservative activist” is hardly a credential deserving of so much press. His demagogic efforts to deprive certain Iowans of their basic liberties and rights is galling to a liberal activist such as myself.
In fact, I'm hereby requesting that Vander Plaats voluntarily leave the state of Iowa. Just move to another state and leave decent, law-abiding people to enjoy our sacred state constitution and our respect for individual differences. The majority of Iowa's residents want no part of a religious agenda in our government. We who love Iowa take the motto on the state flag very seriously.
