Hip, holy not mutually exclusive
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Diane Thompson (April 26 letter) implied that the music at the Christian rock concert with the David Crowder Band and others on April 22 at the U.S. Cellular Center can't be holy because it is popular with today's youth. While holiness may transcend culture, worship has changed many times over the years.
For a time, music was considered sinful. Dancing and other outward expressions were frowned on by the elders of churches who believed that worship had to be silent and follow strict rules. My father-in-law, a true Christian, was kicked out of his church for dancing.
There are many ways to achieve the deeper, richer meaning in life; each person chooses his or her path to holiness. I have had the privilege to worship in a gym with 300 youth singing and worshipping the Lord at the top of their voices. Trust me, the hip and the holy are not mutually exclusive.
You can choose my path, Diane's path or your own path as long as we find our way. By the way, I am 49 and love the old hymns as much as Christian rock.
