Roads are in poor shape

Regarding Steve Spicher's June 17 letter “No improvement to Cedar Rapids roads”:
I agree that our roads are in extremely poor shape. However, I have found a solution to explaining this to visitors I have had recently. I tell them that we are trying to experience what a Third World country has to put up with so we can feel more compassion for those less fortunate than we are.
A simple solution that costs no money so our leaders can spend more (elsewhere) making our city beautiful.
