Let cities retain control of camera placement

We are sinking into the abyss of bureaucratic roundabout. I made five calls trying to reach someone at the Iowa Department of Transportation to file my complaint. A taped voice gave me a choice of four locations. I was told there would be a 20- to 25-minute wait to talk with a representative. I'm not waiting.
My concern involves the DOT's attempt to insert new and complicated rules that will take away a city's control of traffic camera placement.
I agree with the Iowa State Patrol and police departments in the state who are not keen on having the DOT dictate the placement or displacement of traffic cameras. I have been impressed and surprised at how Interstate 380 traffic in Cedar Rapids has slowed the past few years.
DOT Director Paul Trombino recently said, “I heard a lot about enforcement but I didn't hear about safety.” I feel safer driving Interstate 380 through the city at 60 miles per hour than I did a few years back when people were going 70, 75 and 80.
Those who speed and are ticketed should quit whining and recognize that the cameras are in place for the safety of all, and if you end up contributing to the city coffers: Wonderful!
