After more than four decades on the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, Larry Stusak retired Wednesday.
Stusak, 62, was the longest serving firefighter in the history of the department, which dates back to 1869, spokesman Greg Buelow said.
Stusak started as a firefighter on Nov. 16, 1968, and was promoted to Lieutenant on Dec. 16, 1978. He became a Captain on Oct. 29, 1983, and then District Chief on Jan. 2, 1991. His final promotion was to Administrative District Chief on Dec. 28, 1991.
Buelow said records show Edsel McMickle as the next longest serving member of the CRFD. He was a member from November 1950 to December 1991, including Fire Chief from 1971 to 1991.
