Walthall a finalist for Division II coaching job
May. 6, 2010 12:14 pm
Former Iowa assistant coach Chad Walthall is a finalist for the head coaching job at Minnesota State-Moorhead, the school announced on its website.
Walthall served as an assistant for three years with Iowa. He filled in as an interim coach for three games after Todd Lickliter was sidelined following surgery last winter.
Walthall, a Minnesota native, is one of four finalists for the position. He played college football in Moorhead, Minn., at Division III Concordia College. Minnesota State-Moorhead competes in the Northern Sun Conference.
Before coming to Iowa, Walthall coached Division II Loras College in Dubuque for seven seasons. He coached Loras to its first Iowa Conference championship since 1951 and an NCAA Tournament berth. He also served as athletics director for the final four years.
According to the release, Walthall will visit Minnesota State-Moorhead on May 10.

Iowa Head Coach Todd Lickliter had surgery for an undisclosed problem earlier in the day and was not on the bench for the game. Iowa team physician Brian Wolf said Likliter will likely be in the hospital for another day or two. (Brian Ray/The Gazette)
