Four Iowa City residents were arrested on suspicion of various marijuana-related drug charges and child endangerment Monday morning after Iowa City police executed a search warrant at their home.
Reports indicate that Martarius M. Junious, 20, is accused of a controlled substance violation, child endangerment and keeping a drug house after officers located marijuana, packaging materials and a scale at 1111 Hollywood Blvd. in Iowa City at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
Police said many of the drugs were on the floor where children could access them, and one of the rooms had drugs and drug-related items in a child's backpack.
Junious allegedly told officers that the marijuana was not his, but said that his fingerprints would be on baggies and a large glass jar of marijuana because he had handed them to someone else, Iowa City police said.
Dalesha Barton, 18, is accused of possession of a controlled substance and child endangerment after authorities say they located marijuana packaged for sale, packaging materials and cash that appeared to be from drug sales in the residence. Barton's 2-year-old child was home at the time of the search warrant.
Darnell A. Young, 19, is accused of child endangerment, controlled substance violation, possession or distribution without a tax stamp and keeping a drug house. Reports indicate that officers observed more than ten baggies of marijuana packaged for sale near Young on the floor, near two small children.
Young allegedly admitted that the marijuana belonged to him and told officers that he sold the bags for $5 each, Iowa City police said.
Devin T. Smith, 20, also of 1111 Hollywood Blvd., is accused of controlled substance violation, keeping a drug house, possession of drug paraphernalia and child endangerment.
"The two children were handed over to family members," Iowa City Police Sgt. Denise Brotherton said.
All four were being held at the Johnson County Jail on Tuesday morning.
