Reierson, Randolph 'Randy'
Randolph “Randy” Reierson, 90, of Elgin, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. The Rev. Marshall Hahn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Elgin Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin and one hour before services Tuesday at the church.
Randy was born Jan. 27, 1919, in Marion Township, Gunder, Iowa, to Louis and Alvina (Wold) Reierson. Randy graduated from Clermont High School in 1938. He was united in marriage to Virginia Fedeler at the Methodist Church in Hawkeye on Jan. 2, 1955. Three children were born to this union. Randy farmed his entire life in the Gunder and Elgin areas. In later years, he retired and moved to Elgin. Randy also worked for Farm Service Agency climbing bins measuring sealed corn for many years.
Randy enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides in his truck, and when he wasn't busy on the farm, you could find him playing cards at the Quarry Lodge. Randy seemed to always know where the mushrooms were located. He was a longtime bowler and loved dancing with his favorite partner, Ginny.
Randy was a township trustee from 1991-2002, Farm Bureau member from 1945-1995 and a lifetime member of Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder.
Randy will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
Survivors include three children, Brian (Deb) Reierson, Storm Lake, Karen (Carey) Mollenhauer, Marion, and Brad (Kristie) Reierson, Elgin; seven grandchildren, Cory (Robin), Ames, Staci (Chad), Olathe, Kan., Darren, Rhode Island, Darice (Kevin), Center Point, Ryan, Phoenix, Ashley and Blake of Elgin; two great-grandchildren, Terra and Taegan; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one sister, Marjorie Paulsen.
