Iowa State's Brackins, Gilstrap get Big 12 preseason basketball honors
Iowa State forward Craig Brackins has been named to the preseason All-Big 12 team and junior college transfer Marquis Gilstrap is the league's preseason Newcomer of the Year.
Brackins and Gilstrap's selections were announced by the Big 12 on Thursday, following voting by the league's head coaches.
Brackins averaged 20.2 points and 9.5 rebounds in 2008-09 and is the fourth-leading returning scorer in the nation.
Gilstrap, who is expected to play small forward for the Cyclones, averaged 22.6 points and 10.1 rebounds last season.
Kansas stars Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich are the preseason co-Players of the Year.
Iowa State opens its season on Nov. 13 against Idaho State at Hilton Coliseum.
