Frances I. Leidigh, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 2, 2015, at her home. Per Fran's request, there will be no visitation. Private graveside service will be Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra (Stephen) Mertz of Bloomington, Minn.; a son, Jeffrey (Lynn) of Little Rock, Ark.; two grandchildren, Alexis (Josh) and Nick (Erin); two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Caitlin; a sister-in-law, Virgil Hart of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, "Red"; a grandson, Scott Mertz; two brothers, Jim and Russ; a sister-in-law, Donna; and a nephew.
Fran was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Vinton, the daughter of Russell and Melora Lewis Hart. She graduated from Vinton High School in 1941 and from the Cedar Rapids Business School in 1942.
She married Wilson L. "Red" Leidigh on Jan. 4, 1947, in Vinton. Red passed away in 1973. Fran worked at LaPlante Choate from 1942 to 1947. She later was a secretary at College Community Schools and retired from there after 16 years of service.
Fran enjoyed activities at College Community Schools with her husband, Red, who was a coach there. She also enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye football and took great joy in being a grandmother and great-grandmother.
Fran will be greatly missed and her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be given to College Community Schools in Fran and Red's memory.
