JONATHAN PETTY Coralville Jonathan T. Petty, 61, died peacefully Friday, April 11, 2014, at Mercy Iowa City surrounded by his family and friends. A memorial service and reception will be held after Easter with the time and date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospital Foundation, American Diabetes Association or Friends Forever Humane Society in Freeport, Ill. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. Jonathan was born April 17, 1952, in Salisbury, N.C., the son of Theodore and Annie Belle Wade Petty. He graduated from high school in Jacksonville, Fla., and received his bachelor's degree in accounting from Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1973. On Dec. 28, 1974, he married Helene Reed in Crystal River, Fla. They moved to Coralville in 1989. Jon was employed by the Iowa Donor Network as a computer specialist, retiring in 2002. Before that he was employed by the University of Florida. He was a member of First Christian Church. Jon was a computer wiz and collected science fiction novels and hokey Japanese and science fiction movies. He is survived by his loving wife, Helene; and their daughter, Malene Petty, PharmD; his siblings, Joel Petty, Jimmy Petty, Jeffrey Petty and Barbara Petty, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Jane Buck of Cedar Falls; and nieces and nephews, Brittany and Brianna Combs, Donald Combs IV, Cheryl Buck and Wayne Buck. Jon was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jeannie Petty; in-laws, Robert and Louise Reed; and brother-in-law, Dennis Buck.
