School boards need more accountability
The Gazette Opinion Staff

We need to make our school board officials accountable for their selfish property tax increases.
I checked a copy of the notices from The Gazette's July 2, 2009, salary schedule for our school officials.
Do you know, for example, that the principals of Kennedy and Washington high schools, who incidentally are man and wife, earned $118,000 in 2007-08 and in 2008-09 their salaries increased to $125,000? A $7,000 increase in one year? That is obscene! In these times of money crunch, how can this board once again increase our property taxes by an average of $100 per year?
What are you doing with our tax dollars? What are you doing with the local option tax that was voted in to avoid property tax increases? Was it (proposed) only to get the tax through?
Someone needs to be accountable.
