Gray, Charlotte I.
Charlotte I. Gray, 92, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at Virginia Gay Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with the Rev. Karen Larson officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Charlotte was born August 14, 1918, in Jackson Township of Benton County to Elmer T. and Myrtle (Burkey) Clark and graduated from the Mount Auburn High School. On Dec. 28, 1937, she was united in marriage to Willard Richard Gray. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1987.
Charlotte was employed at Collins Radio until her retirement in 1971. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Vinton Women's Club and Navy Mothers for over 20 years. In her leisure, she enjoyed embroidering, painting, crocheting, flower arranging and sewing. Her greatest pleasure came from time spent with her family.
She is survived by her children, Joan L. Gray Peterson of Des Moines, and Russell D. Gray and daughter-in-law, Marjorie E. Gray of Geneseo, Ill.; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Gray of Vinton; seven grandchildren; three stepgranddaughters; 15 great-grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and her brother, Leland Clark of Cedar Rapids.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald L. Gray; her grandson, Joe Gray; and her sisters, Dorothy Edler and Bernice Clark.
