Olberding, Dorothy A.
Dorothy A. Olberding, 89, of Dyersville, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 4:30 p. m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. The Rev. Robert Gross will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Dorothy was born April 14, 1921, in Petersburg, Iowa, the daughter of John and Catherine (Nurre) Klostermann. She married Aloysius Olberding on Nov. 28, 1940, in St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg. Together they began farming until Allie preceded her in death in 1963. She continued her life on the farm and was employed at the Corner Drug Store for over 30 years.
Dorothy was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and enjoyed many friendships through volunteering at the church and hospital. She led a full life with many interests, including playing cards, golfing, quilting, walking and attending her grandchildren's many activities.
Three words to sum up Dorothy's life: Faith, Family and Friends.
Surviving are her children, Lois (Merlin) Kramer of Dubuque, Linda Trosky of Cedar Rapids, Bob (Carolyn) of Dyersville, JoAnn (Chuck) Olson of Dubuque, Elaine (Mark) Miller of Norway, Iowa, Marian (Mark) Hayes of St. Paul, Minn., LuAnn (Jim) Most of St. Louis, Mo., and Larry (JoAnn) of Dyersville; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Olberding of Dyersville; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Zita Lansing of Dubuque, Helen Wessels, Jenny Conrad and Mildred Schlichte, all of Dyersville, Donna Juran of Edgewood and Sister Marian Klostermann OSF, of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Eileen Ricker, and a brother-in-law, Gus Olberding, both of Seneca, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allie; a son, Ron; two brothers, Everett and Walter Klostermann; and several brothers- and-sisters-in-law.
The family would like to thank the SICU staff at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for their professional and compassionate care.
Memorials are preferred to St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
