Marion council snubs proposed gun ban for now

MARION - A move to restrict guns on city property is dead for now.
Marion City Council members voted 4-3 at last night's meeting not to reconsider an ordinance that would disallow gun carriers from displaying weapons on city property.
Numerous other localities are considering similar measures after changes to state law went into effect Jan. 1. Under the new rules, permit holders don't have to conceal their weapons. But many area policymakers say they don't want anyone waving guns on public property.
However, council members said they'll wait to see if the state acts on the issue.
“We can come back at a later date, and after the state does what they do, we will probably reconsider,” Kay Lammers said.
