Heck, Mildred Taylor
Mildred Taylor Heck, 89, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3.
Mildred was born to Fred and Dorothy Taylor on April 13, 1922, in Aledo, Ill. She attended grade schools and graduated from Aledo High School in 1940. She then attended the University of Iowa, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in commerce in 1944. She married Kenneth Heck in Spokane, Wash., in 1944 during the war. After the war they returned to Cedar Rapids, where Kenneth started his dental practice. Milly was a homemaker and she and Kenneth had three children.
Milly was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, PEO Sisterhood and College Club. She loved dogs, playing bridge, and going to her lake home in Minnesota, but most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Milly was a gentle spirit with a kind heart. She will forever be remembered for her pleasant personality.
Survivors include her two sons, Tom Heck of Henderson, Nev., and Jim and wife Jane Heck of Lisbon; one daughter, Sharon and husband Mike Armstrong of Keller, Texas; and three grandchildren, Tom Armstrong, Mark and wife Danielle Armstrong, and Jenny and husband TJ Drinkwater, all of Keller, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1986; and her brother, Bill Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Mildred's name to Cedar Valley Humane Society, 7411 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
