The mayor of Dunkerton and a relative have been charged with misdemeanors for actions at a disputed traffic stop.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports Mayor Michael James Schares and his nephew, Thomas Lee Adamson, were cited Wednesday for interference with official acts and harassment of a public official.
The Black Hawk County Attorney's Office and Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office had been investigating what happened Dec. 2 when Dunkerton officer Robert Roquet ticketed Teresa Adamson for speeding. She is Thomas Adamson's wife.
Roquet and his lawyer allege Schares intervened at the scene and later fired Roquet. The city attorney says Roquet was never fired. Schares has denied intervening.
Roquet is back on the job now.
