O'Toole, M. Dean
M. Dean O'Toole, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at The Woodlands / The Meth-Wick Community. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church, by the Rev. Mark Reasoner, with military honors by American Legion Post 727. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family following the vigil service until 7 p.m. and also Saturday at the church after 9:30 a.m.
Dean is survived by three daughters, Karen (Dave) Ackerman, Cindy (Zeke) Bideaux and Colleen (Tom) Hoxmeier, all of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildrenm Erika Olson, Kendra (Travis) Klooster, Matthew and Jeremy Bideaux, Lisa (Pete Leehey) Palumbo, Jenny (Brian) Novak and Justin (Woori) Hoxmeier; and 11 great-grandchildren.
His wife, Donna, and brother, Jack, preceded him in death.
Dean was born June 14, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Michael and Florence (Milke) O'Toole. He married Donna Fae Amdal on April 17, 1948, at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. She preceded him in death in 2010. Dean retired as a foreman in 1984 with over 35 years at Wilson's Foods. Dean was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and helped with children's masses, the American Legion, and Knights of Columbus Council 909. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Dean was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame fan and was very proud of his Irish heritage.
