I am a veteran teacher. I have taught for 25 years, 17 of these years have been teaching 7th and 8th grade math in Solon. I am teaching the future of Iowa.
I was disheartened and discouraged by Gov. Terry Branstad's comments regarding collective bargaining and teacher's unions. I am teaching the future of Iowa.
I have always believed that one of the advantages of Iowa's public school system is the different years of service by the different teachers. It is great to have the new, excited, eager first-year teachers. I thrive on their energy and their ideas. But, I have something to provide them, experience with class management and time management for example. We are teaching the future of Iowa.
Iowa students continue to score high on ACT tests and SAT tests when compared to the nation. Who is providing them their guidance and knowledge? We are teaching the future of Iowa.
I am lucky, I like my chosen career and feel that I still have much to offer my students. Better yet, my students still have much to offer me.
I am teaching the future of Iowa.
