Nemecek, Joan V.
Joan V. Nemecek, 84, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 29, 2012, at Royal Park Care Center in Spokane, Wash.
Joan was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, to George and Agnes Velcko (Konecny). She married Richard C. Nemecek on Aug. 26, 1944, in Iowa City. He preceded her in death May 18, 2010.
She is survived by her son, Richard L. Nemecek (Debbie) of Monrovia, Calif.; daughter, Cathy L. Emerson (Rick) of Spokane, Wash.; grandsons, Eric R. Emerson (Alysia) of Couer D'Alene, Idaho, and Michael R. Emerson (Calaise) of Spokane, Wash.; and granddaughter, Amanda N. Nemecek of Whittier, Calif.
A passionate doll collector, Joan was blessed with her “favorite doll” on June 27 2012, when her first great-granddaughter, Hannah Lyn Emerson, was born.
Our mom touched many hearts with her generosity, unyielding advocacy, support and determination.
The family extends a special thank you to our Cedar Rapids family and friends who were there when both Mom and Dad came home.
Services for Joan will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery.
