Donald M. Mann Jr., 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Services: 6 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Alice JoAnn Mann; his daughters, Jean Ann (Larry) Hartke of Emporia, Kan., Amy (Phil Butterfield) Schloss of Cedar Rapids and Kristin Marie (Dave) Sherzer of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Hallie Jo Schloss, Anthony Ray Schloss, Jonah James Sherzer and Jacob Russell Sherzer; and his great-granddaughter, Maliah Shea Carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Phyllis Harris.

Donald was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Donald and Dorthea Babcook Mann. He married Alice JoAnn Mc Clarrinan on March 21, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. Donald was a draftsman for Turner Microphone. He was a lifetime musician and a member of the Musicians Union. At the age of 15 he started playing in bands and played with Kenny Hoffer and the Howdy Roberts Band. When younger he was an active swimmer in school competition and later built houses. He was very handy and could fix anything. Donald loved attending dances with Alice. He enjoyed spending time with his family and teaching his grandchildren music. Donald was a strong-willed person and took good care of his family and was very proud of them.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
