Congress should act in interests of the people
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Feb. 1, 2010 11:05 pm
Congress should allow a bill to be considered only if it can stand on its merits. In other words, no earmarks. If the earmarks are not strong enough to stand on their own, they should be disallowed. It would be a tremendous savings for the government and for the citizens that Congress represents.
Also, no more stimulus money to the banks. If their CEOs and other executives can give themselves big bonuses and perks, they definitely do not deserve assistance from middle-class taxpayers. If they can't succeed, they should be allowed to go under. This is known as free enterprise.
For Congress: Our government is supposed to be “of the people, by the people, and for the people,” not for the large special interest groups, large donors to campaign coffers and rich constituents. Get your butts in gear, Congress. We are watching.
