Over 1 million Iowans now fully vaccinated
The number of Iowans vaccinated surpassed the 1 million mark a day after the total number of people in Iowa vaccinated, non-Iowans included, surpassed the number
More than 1 million Iowans have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
As of Thursday afternoon, 1,001,194 Iowa residents have been vaccinated, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.
On Wednesday, the number of people fully vaccinated in the state, including non-Iowans, surpassed 1 million as The Gazette previously reported, but Thursday’s milestone counts Iowa residents only.
The total number of people who have been fully vaccinated in the state was 1,041,462 as of 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
The total number of doses administered in Iowa was 2,309,070, up 26,533 from Wednesday’s total.
In Linn County, 77,796 people are fully vaccinated, or 34.32 percent of the county’s total population and 43.11 percent of adult Iowans over age 16, the youngest people who can be vaccinated. Some 175,717 doses have been administered, up 1,963 from the day before.
In Johnson County, 60,865 people are fully vaccinated, or 40.27 percent of the total population and 48.96 percent of the adult population. Some 136,352 doses have been administered, up 2,036 from Wednesday’s total.
NEW CASES
Iowa on Thursday added 474 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of people in the state who have tested positive for the virus to 364,403 since March 2020, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health. The state’s seven-day average for new cases is 370.
Linn County added 31 COVID-19 cases Thursday, bringing its pandemic total to 20,582. The county’s seven-day average is 24.
Johnson County reported 25 new cases for a total of 14,315. Johnson’s seven-day average is 18.
Of Thursday’s new cases, 110 were children up to age 17, bringing the total number of infected minors to 43,007.
CONFIRMED DEATHS
There were no new deaths reported Thursday. The COVID-19 death toll in Iowa remains at 5,931.
The state’s seven-day average for new deaths is four.
HOSPITALIZATIONS
Across the state, hospitalizations for COVID-19 remained at 184.
The number of patients in intensive care increased by seven to 44 during the 24-hour period as of 11 a.m. The number of patients on ventilators also increased from 24 to 25.
LONG-TERM CARE FACILITIES
As of Thursday, one long-term care facility in Iowa is experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak - three or more cases - with 18 people sick.
