Pancake, Velma Hale
Velma Hale Pancake, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Cottage Grove Place. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Burial will take place at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Winslow, Ind.
Surviving are her sister, Esther Jacobs of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, Harry Hale of Ames; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tim; and three sisters, Margaret Williams, Mary Richardson and Ruth Garrison.
Velma was born in Winslow, Ind., on Oct. 26, 1911, the first of six children to Luther and Ethel Hale. She attended Oakland City College and Evansville College and taught elementary school for a number of years in Winslow and Liberty, Indiana.
On June 16, 1946, she married Tim Pancake, and they lived in Chicago, Brazil and Martinsville, Indiana, Kansas City, Omaha and Cedar Rapids. In recent years, she was a resident of Cottage Grove Place. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and PEO.
