History Center move makes no sense

To the editor:
Regarding the Sept. 10 article 'History Center to buy the Douglas Mansion”:
To downsize The Carl & Mary Koehler History Center after the community took the organization from near bankruptcy and paid off its mortgage, then move into a vacant, smaller old building that is not a museum and has no room for expansion, will ensure collections will forever be stored off site and guarantee no one will ever see those collections.
We might as well sell the entire collection to the highest bidder, return the money to the county and bulldoze both places like we have done with most of the history in Cedar Rapids. It would certainly be in character for the way things have gone for at least as long as I have lived in this community. Someone is making money on this move and the rest of the community is losing, par for the course.
