Mims transfers from Prairie to Xavier

Apr. 14, 2014 3:36 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Junior basketball point guard Michael Mims has left Cedar Rapids Prairie High School and will play his senior season at Cedar Rapids Xavier.
Mims began classes Monday at Xavier, Saints Coach Ryan Luehrsmann confirmed. Coincidentally or not, Prairie announced the hiring of assistant Jeremy Rickertsen as its new head coach Friday.
'We're excited to have him,” Luehrsmann said. 'He's a quality kid. I think it was them (the family) just looking for a change. I think he'll fit in well with us.”
The 5-foot-9 Mims was a first-team all-Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division pick in 2013-14. He led Prairie in scoring (13.7 points), assists and steals and shot 40.2 percent from 3-point range.
Mims' addition certainly will make Xavier one of the top teams in Class 3A next season. The Saints, who lost to state champ Dubuque Wahlert in this past season's substate finals, return all-MVC players Adam McDermott and Calvin Winker, among others.
