MARION - It should be a busy construction season at Linn-Mar this summer with major capital projects at Linn-Mar High School, Westfield Elementary and Oak Ridge Middle School along with maintenance projects throughout the district.
Administrators briefed school board members on the construction projects at a work session this week, telling them the district is expecting to spend $7.3 million from its physical plant and equipment fund and $7.1 million from sales tax revenues during the 2016-17 budget year.
Larson Construction will begin work this summer on a $2.2 million, six-classroom addition to Westfield. The addition is scheduled for completion before the start of classes in the fall of 2017.
Garling Construction will be working on two projects, a $1.3 million remodel of the kitchen at the high school and a $700,000 expansion of the cafeteria at Oak Ridge. Both projects are scheduled for completion this fall.
The high school is in the midst of a $30 million renovation project, which will continue through the summer with work on both the north and south additions set for completion by the end of July. The district has allocated $1.75 million for new furniture, fixtures and equipment.
The entire renovation project is scheduled for completion in January.
