Carole Ann Conner, 60, of Iowa City, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Iowa City, with committal services following at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a vigil service starting at 7 p.m.

Memorials can be made to Iowa City Hospice or Mercy Hospice.

Carole A. (Rubenbauer) Conner was born March 9, 1949, in Dubuque, the daughter of Don and Norma Rubenbauer. Upon graduation from high school, Carole attended the University of Iowa, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. On April 3, 1970, Carole was united in marriage to Ronald Conner in Dubuque.

Following marriage, the Iowa City area became home for Ron and Carole. Carole was employed as a Housing Manager with the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) for over 20 years, a career which she wholeheartedly enjoyed. Carole changed the course of many people's lives, working on numerous boards, committees and projects directly focused on the Iowa City area homeless. Carole was a strong advocate for those in need, and her passion and talents will certainly be missed by those she affected. Away from work, Carole enjoyed spending time at their lake house and time outdoors. Carole especially enjoyed the natural beauty of Maui, Hawaii. Carole also enjoyed her time watching HGTV.

Carole's family includes her husband, Ronald; daughter, April (Chad) Eich of Cedar Rapids; sons, Jonathan (Sarah) Conner of North Liberty and Joel (Ann) Conner of Iowa City; grandchildren, Kennedy Conner and Austen James Eich; mother, Norma Rubenbauer of Dubuque; sisters, Mary (Roger) Baumhover of Dubuque and Sister Suzanne Rubenbauer of Eden Prairie, Minn.; as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

Carole was preceded in death by her father; as well as grandparents, William and Minnie King, and Hiram “Ike” and Lilly Rubenbauer.
