Markee, Catherine Susan (Driscoll)
IOWA CITY - Catherine Susan (Driscoll) Markee, of Iowa City and Mount Vernon, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at her home following a brief illness.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Iowa City, with the Rev. John Spiegel and the Rev. Rodney Allers officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a vigil service, lead by the Rev. John Gossman, will be held at 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. John's Catholic Church Building Fund, Lisbon/Mount Vernon.
Catherine was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel L. and Mary Ellen Dalton Driscoll. On May 31, 1952, Catherine married Robert Markee at St. Mary's Church in Iowa City. Robert died in 2002.
Catherine was a 50-year member of St. Mary's Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. In 2006, she moved to Mount Vernon to be near her daughter. She was a member of St. Johns Church in Mount Vernon.
Catherine loved to quilt, knit, crochet and sew. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family and faith were most important in her life.
Catherine is survived by one daughter, Susan Schettler (William) of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren, Barbara of Dallas, Eric (Megan) of Sioux City and Eadie of Cedar Falls; great-grandson, Jack; one brother, Thomas (Helen) Driscoll of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Mary Kaefring, Sister Christine Driscoll, Patricia Kern and Bea Sweeney; two brothers, Patrick and Joseph; and sisters-in-law, Maxine and Pat Driscoll.
