Karen Jean Buhmann, 73, of Bend, Ore., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died May 13, 2018. A celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Inurnment will follow in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Dean Buhmann.

Karen was born to Ernest and Marjorie Decious in Linn County, Iowa. She was the youngest of five children and treasured by a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. She was raised and nurtured in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area for approximately the first 30 years of her life. After her first marriage and the birth of two sons, she chose Donald D. Buhmann and blessed him with two more sons, which resulted in a wonderful and loving blended family, which now includes six granddaughters and one grandson. Her gentle heart and giving spirit were the core of her very being.

While she loved the many exciting adventures and challenges of her life as a mother of four sons, and the wife of a railroad engineer "boomer," her heart always remembered those close ties to her roots in Iowa, where she is to be interred.

She enjoyed reading, needlework, crocheting, crossword puzzles and Sunday drives in the country (to check the crops) and an unbelievable passion for sweet corn, or if not available, Dairy Queen treats for a "Super Sunday" Sundae!

Because of dementia and leukemia, her mind and body gave out. Her soul is now at peace. Her faith sustained her as she believed in forgiveness of sin, resurrection of the body and life eternal. May we all be able to say, not goodbye, but farewell until we meet again.

Private services for family will be held in Bend. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Bend First Presbyterian Church.
