Former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Matt Donovan scored a goal for a second-straight game Sunday to help the United States past Switzerland, 3-0, at the World Junior Hockey Championships (19-and-under) in Saskatchewan.
Donovan also scored in the U.S.'s 7-3 win over Slovakia on Saturday night. His goal Sunday came from just inside the blue line and gave his team a 2-0 second-period lead.
Donovan played in Cedar Rapids the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons and is a New York Islanders draft pick who is a freshman at the University of Denver.
Here's a game story. The U.S.'s next game in the preliminary round is Tuesday against Latvia, which lost to host Canada on Saturday, 16-0.
The United States celebrates a goal from Chris Kreider (20) in the second period of its 3-0 shutout win over Switzerland on Sunday at the IIHF Under-20 World Hockey Championships.
