A man was assaulted with a baseball bat in southeast Cedar Rapids Sunday when he told his assailant he didn't have any money, police said.
According to Cedar Rapids police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin, William Mullen, 37, was walking to the Casey's General Store, 201 Eighth Ave. SE, at 11:43 p.m. Sunday when he was stopped at Third Street and Sixth Avenue SE by a bearded man wearing a black hoodie and dark pants, asking for money.
When Mullen told him he didn't have any money, the subject hit him with a baseball bat and left on foot.
Mullen was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment of an injury, but the injury wasn't considered life-threatening, Hamblin said.
Police said the suspect is a white male with a full beard, between 35 and 40 years of age and approximately six feet tall.
