Stamp, Leon Robert
GARWIN - Leon Robert Stamp was born March 15, 1928, in rural Garwin, Iowa, the son of Henry and Frieda (Busch) Stamp. He received his education in country school in Spring Creek Township and later graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1945. Leon then began farming and, on Feb. 6, 1949, was united in marriage to Verna Cooper at the EUB Church in Toledo. Leon and Verna made their home farming all their married life in the Garwin area. Leon's love was farming and on Wednesday of this week spent time out in the field watching his grandson combining beans. On Thursday he was admitted to the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, where his death came on Friday morning, Oct. 8, 2010, at the age of 82 years.
He was a former member of Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook until 1969, when he became a member of the Garwin United Methodist Church. He was a longtime member of the Garwin Lions Club and the Tama County Farm Bureau.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Verna; his children, Keith (Sandy) Stamp of Monticello, Karen (Roger) Jackson of Garwin, Kevin (Marcia) Stamp of Toledo and Kalyn (Brad) Cook of Marion; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethel (Herman) Lucht and Floriss Stamp, both of Garwin.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at the United Methodist Church in Garwin, with burial to follow at Crystal Cemetery, rural Toledo. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Overton Funeral Home in Garwin.
