To the editor:
As longtime residents, parents and alumni of College Community School District, we are urging patrons to vote yes on a bond referendum on April 7.
Predictions indicate the district will grow by 1,000 students or 21 percent over the next 10 years - from 5,000 students in 2014 to 6,000 students in 2024.
The facilities committee and the board have presented a realistic path forward for our schools' facilities for the next 10 years. Items included in the bond issue include adding classrooms, improving accessibility, maximizing space in common areas, building permanent walls, security and technological upgrades, HVAC renovations and more. Proposed improvements are thoughtfully planned and fiscally responsible.
The additional cost equates to $10 a month extra for homes with an assessed value of $100,000. CCSD's tax rate of $15.97 would be the second lowest in the metro area.
Adequate space, low student teacher ratios, keeping buildings warm and doors secure are important to maintaining a good learning environment You can ensure that these improvements are possible by supporting the bond issue.
While most improvements in this bond issue are not glamorous items, one would not question completing these important projects on our homes.
High quality schools are always high on the list when selecting a community to raise a family or start a business. The CCSD bond issue will keep our schools at the top of the list for those seeking to invest in our community. Please join us and address these needs by voting yes.
